Oakland tax dayEvery year on tax day — Tuesday, April 15, this year — hundreds of individuals and groups around the country get out and demand that the financial resources of the U.S. be used for human needs, peace, and justice — not war. Protests and leafleting are held at post offices, town squares, and federal buildings.

Arizona

Tucson — Money for Schools, Not Missiles! Join the Raytheon Peacemakers as we demonstrate against war and those who profit from it. Survival demands better ideas, not better weapons. Berkeley — Northern Calfornia War Tax Resistance and People’s Life Fund granting ceremony on the Sunday before Tax Day, April 13th at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists, 1606 Bonita Ave. Berkeley, Calif. Chico — Chico Peace and Justice Center sponsors a discussion about peace and taxes at the Chico Peace & Justice Center, 526 Broadway Street, on Tuesday, April 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by a protest to raise awareness about the percentage of tax dollars allocated for military spending instead of humanitarian and environmental services. Chicago — Chicago Area War Resisters Support Committee’s annual war tax resistance demonstration, Federal Building Plaza, April 15, 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Speeches, singing, leafleting with WRL pie chart, penny poll, signs and banners. Joined by several Chicago-area peace organizations and a north side Unitarian/Univesalist group, plus video coverage by Paula Rogge for new war tax resistance film!

Indiana

Mishawaka/South Bend — The Michiana War Tax Refusers are holding a tax day vigil at our local Congresswoman’s office in conjunction with Michiana Peace and Justice Coalition and Americans for Tax Fairness. It will be at 4 p.m. on April 15 at 202 Lincolnway East Suite 101, Mishawaka. We will hold signs and pass out WRL pie chart flyers.

Iowa

Dubuque — Citizens’ Tax Moratorium. Portsmouth — War tax education and penny poll activity this coming Tuesday, April 15th in Market Square, Portsmouth from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This action is planned to call attention to the unjustifiable cost of our increasingly militarized federal budget, despite the recent draw-down of our disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. New York

Ithaca — Ithaca War Tax Resisters will be present on April 15, at the downtown Ithaca Post office, 213 Tioga St., from 3:30 to 5:30. We will be holding a 20-foot long graph of the federal budget, showing the terribly skewed military spending priorities, and we will be passing out information about where your tax dollars go. As people of conscience who are against all war, war tax resisters don’t want their federal tax dollars paying for war and killing. If you work for peace, don’t pay for war! Portland — War Resisters League, Portland chapter is organizing its annual “burma shave on the bridges” protest on Tuesday, April 15. We stand on the bridge sidewalks holding “burma shave” style signs for morning commuters with a message about military spending priorities and taxes paying for war. Meet in the Burger King parking lot (on SE MLK Jr. Blvd. near the Hawthorne Bridge) at 7:30 a.m. and break up into teams, one for each bridge. Bethlehem area — LEPOCO’s Annual Tax Day Leafleting at area post offices. Volunteers are needed to help hand out the War Resisters League’s “Where Your Tax Money Really Goes” pie chart. Using the ever relevant pie chart leafleters will greet tax payers at local post offices on the last day to file a tax return for 2013. Media — The Brandywine Peace Community along with the Peace Center of Delaware County will be doing a Noontime, Tuesday, April 15, demonstration, at the Media Post Office, Baltimore Pike & Monroe Street, in Media, Delaware County. The Tax Day demonstration will be just blocks from the site of Media FBI Break-in (March 8, 1971) and will include 20 foot long graph showing the obscene military spending priorities and large signs reading: Taxes for Need not War & Military Greed. Philadelphia — Brandywine Peace Community monthly potluck supper and program featuring a large-screen showing of the 30-minute NWTRCC film, Death & Taxes. Texas

Austin — CodePink Austin is planning a “Human Penny Poll” in downtown Austin, at 2nd St. and City Hall, 4–6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. We will dress in costume to represent different categories of federal spending (eg. a person in cap and gown for the Education category, a person dressed as a nurse for the Health Care category…) and we will each be carrying a penny poll jar or container. We will offer passers-by a stack of pennies to distribute between our containers according to their priorities. We plan to distribute pie chart fliers as well. Vermont

Pioneer Valley War Tax Resisters and supporters (all welcome!) will gather in front of the Brattleboro Post Office between 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Tax Day, April 15. Washington

Seattle — Please join members of Greater Seattle Veterans For Peace on Tuesday, April 15, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., Midtown Post Office at 301 Union St. (at 3rd Ave.) in downtown Seattle, as we help raise public awareness about the militarization of the US federal budget and about nonviolent alternatives to passively paying for wars and weapons we don’t want. We will be distributing copies of the War Resisters League’s pie chart leaflet — “Where Your Income Tax Money Really Goes” which analyzes the 2014 federal budget.
