What Are the Contest Rules?

Who can participate?
Anyone! Although your video should appeal to young people, people of any age are welcome to enter. You are also free to submit more than one entry.

Length
30 seconds - 4 minutes

Target audience
U.S. taxpayers, especially young people who are starting to get paychecks

Topic
To introduce the idea of “war tax resistance” — making an informed decision about whether or not to let the government use your taxes for war. Your video should direct people to the following webpage for more information: www.warresisters.org/wtr.htm

WHAT IS WAR TAX RESISTANCE?
War tax resistance is directly refusing to pay for war, even though that refusal may be illegal. For more information, go to www.nwtrcc.org/what_is_wtr.htm or www.warresisters.org/wtr.htm.

Format
Submit your video on either a miniDV tape or as an uncompressed, DV-format video file on a DVD-R data disc. Animations are welcome.

Submissions
Mail to: NWTRCC, PO Box 150553, Brooklyn, NY 11215. Be sure to include this downloadable entry form with your video.

Rights
Entrants must obtain the necessary rights and permissions for all material used in each entry, including any and all non-original aspects. All entries will become the property of NWTRCC and will not be returned. NWTRCC reserves the right of non-exclusive, perpetual use of all submissions for non-commercial purposes. In other words, by submitting a video, you give NWTRCC the right to use your work to educate people about war tax resistance, without taking away your right to also use the video for your own purposes . . . and don't worry, it is still legal to make such a film.

How will the videos be used?
The finalists will be distributed nationally as televised public service announcements and will be posted on the websites of local and national affiliate organizations.

How and when will the videos be selected?
The deadline for submission is January 15, 2008. Selected videos will be streamed and rated online by the public starting in February 2008. The winning videos will be selected from among the finalists by a panel of judges who will also consider the input of youth focus groups in diverse parts of the country. The judges decisions will be final. All prizes need not be awarded. The winners will be announced on April 15, 2008.

Will there be prizes?
Yes! In addition to the national exposure and recognition you will get as a finalist, there will be cash prizes of $100 for third place, $200 for second place and $300 for first place.
