Eight Tasks We Need to Complete by September 1 – Can you help?

Responses to these task questions should be sent to both Ruth Benn nwtrcc@nwtrcc.org and Bill Ramsey hras@humanrightsaction.net.  The subject line should read “WTR 2008 tasks”

1) A list of existing WTRers already committed to WTR on Tax Day 2008. Would you be willing to register as a participant in the action now, so we can begin in September with a substantial number? If so, fill out the revised draft of the commitment card to sign up and mail it to address at the bottom of the form.

2) Create a name for the action. See attached list of possible names.  Add suggestions to it and/or your preference among those listed.

3) Refine and complete online version and printed version of commitment card (see revised draft) Is there someone with the skills and time to do this?

4) Select redirection projects: Voices for Creative Nonviolence is preparing a list of projects among Iraqi refugees in Jordan and Syria . Veterans for Peace is preparing a list of projects assisting Katrina communities. The concept, so far, is to keep it simple and focus the redirection on these two areas. Do you agree?  If not, what would you add?

5) Select alternative funds to receive redirected taxes: We believe that it would be best to select five or six alternative funds to receive and redirect resisted taxes generated by this action. Administrators of the funds would have to agree to keep an accounting and carry out the redirection as designated by the resisters redirection form. Is your alternative fund willing to participate?

6) Create specific step-by-step guide for one-time WTRers(How to adjust withholding, how to file and write refusal letter, how and where to redirect money, and list of most likely consequences.).   Is there someone who can compose a draft?  Are there others that would be willing to review it by e-mail?

7) Create a basic “Appeal to Resist” flyer which could be published online and in print. We are looking for a piece with attractive graphics and a concise explanation of the action. Is there someone who can compose a draft?  Are there others that would be willing to review it by e-mail?  Is there someone with graphic skills to help us create a common image for the action?

8) Commitments to staff tables at anti-war events in your area of throughout the fall. This could include:

Are you already related to one or more of these actions?  Would you be willing to coordinate a table at one of the actions to register people for the April 2008 Action?
